A while ago, the main fan (the one that blows air across the heat sink) in my G4 decided to stop working. In it's place i installed a new fan and a speed controller. So, i ask, anyone with an MDD G4 (the one with the mirrored drive bay doors), what is your CPU temp? Im trying to balance fan noise with temperature, and am looking for a baseline. Im currently reading a CPU temp (actually taken at the CPU junction (space between the 2 CPUs) of
46.5 deg C.

what model do you have? what heatsink? (copper/alu?) I´ve got the dual 1.25ghz one/alu heatsink and my temp is at ~58°C with NAP turned off and at 46°-50° with NAP turned on.

Sorry. It's a Dual 1.25GHz, and i
think it's got the aluminum heatsink.
BTW, what is 'NAP'?

Just wanted to provide an update:
Well, i've really been putting the MDD through it's paces, and the temperature is stable
@ 47.0°c, and it's a wee bit quieter than it was, even after apple's quieting mods.

My dual 1.25 with the aluminum heat sink runs around 56 or so most of the time. Right now it is at 50 degrees, but it has only been on for a half hour or so.

Mine's been on for a bit over 24hrs now, since i started this thread, and it seems to keep around 45.5°c to 47°c, with the fan running near full tilt. If i quiet it down a bit (which i can do via a knob, mounted in a PCI slot cover) it warms up to around 50ish.

the so called 'nap-mode' is some kind of power save function of the g4 processor. it´s used in the apple g4 notebooks but the processors in the desktop machines support it, too. you can turn it on/off using the 'hardware' control panel that comes with the apple CHUD tools. this isn´t supported by apple but works ok for me.

Got a link to said tools? Or can you tell me where i can acquire said tools?
