Should the forum allow inline images using the [img] bbcode?
What do you think? Are they annoying, informative, or do you care at all?
Peace,
Drew

Gah! I selected to abstain but to be honest, I like being able to embed a picture into the body of the post, so long as the users try to keep it a small size so that it doesn't disrupt the size of the forum in a browser. I've seen some people embed pictures that were humongous which then force you to scroll to the right to read any posts. This makes is especially annoying when having to read long paragraphs.
If there were a way to possibly make the picture scrollable within a locked box to prevent the size increase that would do it, but I don't know if that's even a possibility with phpBB.

Hmm. You could do an inline frame for the image. It wouldn't work in older browsers, though. The other drawback is that there would always be a fixed frame size.
A 32x32 pixel image would take up the same space in a post as a 1024x768 pixel image except that the smaller image would have a huge blank area and the larger image would be constricted but scrollable. The alternative is to force all inline images to a certain width & height.
Peace,
Drew

I voted for no inline images. They can really tear up the look of a great forum, they make it load much slower, even on fast machines with fast connections, and they'll be nearly impossible for slower machines with slower connections. Besides, do we really need them?

There have been times when I have wished for the ability to post an explanatory or illustrative image to a forum. While I am conscious of the possibility that such a feature can be overused, in a forum of addicts it could often be useful to show a hack, a window, a circuit diagram or summat for the immediate delight and delectation of others, rather than to depend on the sometimes uncertain utility of a posted URL.
If the width of images could be constrained to that viewable with, say, 640 wide resolution, it might be worth considering. However, there is probably no single resolution that will suit all the machines used by members on this site, even though most will probably be obliged by current websites to be using relatively recent browsers.

I think inline images should´nt be allowed to prevent us (especially the younger forum members) from explicit pics that are posted by spambots.
it´s unfortunate because sometimes inline images come in handy but as long as there´s no posibility to safely block spam(bots) in my opinion its not a good idea.

I have to agree with this one, and in this case, I'm invoking executive privilege. Inline images will be disabled as soon as I get a chance to do the mod.
That's one reason to prohibit them that I did not foresee.
Sad...
Peace,
Drew

Good point, and great decision. I think that we could count on the maturity of most people in here NOT to post explicit/obscene things, but we can NEVER count on spambots to extend the same courtsey.

I think we should be allowed to post images, with the understanding that if it gets out of hand, we'll be forced to install windows CE on horribly slow and antiquated pee cee hardware for the rest of our days.

If the posting gets out of hand, or somebody abuses their right to post images, then they should be forced to use Windows Vista on a slow Pentium III for a month >
