This may be a fine example of 'post hoc ergo propter hoc', but I foundin three G4s (2 x DP MDDs and a 17" alum. PB)that installation of the cited security update was immediately followed by a mystifying loss of ethernet LAN connectivity between them. However, all three 10.5.8 Macs still instantly connect to another G4 DP MDD running 10.4.11, although not it to them.

Has anyone else had an even remotely similar outcome? No check of Shared Folders and Users in System Preferences, nor of Privileges in Info. (⌘-I), has thrown light on the matter.

This sounds strange.

We just moved into a new house and we're still digging out. My G4s have been out of service for several months - I'll let you know as soon as I get them back up and running!

And snap. We also are still digging out/in close on three months after moving house. Although most of my chilluns are languishing, neglected, in a room too small to hold them all conveniently in working array, the G4s were amongst the first possessions to be set up in the new environment. All the more puzzling then that an update should appear to have been such a downer.

So I finally updated my MDD, my QuickSilver, and my AluBook completely, and all seem to be fully functional on the network connecting with each other and with other Intel boxes. Weird. Are you sure there wasn't something else going on?

Verily, there was. Paranoid as ever, in System Preferemces/Security/Firewall I had reset from Set access for specific services and applications to Allow only essential services. Oddly, this does not seem to include TCP/IP networking. Restoration of the status quo ante solved the problem.

Oh! What a tangled web ...
