What is the largest hard drive size that anyone has installed in a Powerbook 5300?
I tried to install a 2GB but when it came to mounting it onto the cage, the screws were in a different spot. I had thought that all IDE HDs had the same attachment spots and now I am aware that it is otherwise. I guess I could drill holes where the screws are to go but I'd rather not have to do that.

When I upgraded my 1400, I had the same problem and I ended up just taping the hard disk into the sled. Kind of ghetto, but it works.

The 1400 is easy to modify that way. I think mine is a case I stole from a dead PC laptop.
The 5300 is much more difficult with its weird HD mount. I am fairly certain it can handle larger sizes like 10 or maybe 20GB but I believe it is limited by the ATA controller. Had a link but it seems to be dead now

maybe measure out where you want the holes, and drill away. i am looking at my 5300 drive cage, and it looks like the best solution.

Thinking about this for a while got me the idea of pulling the cage from a dead 3400c (video problem) and installing it into the 5300. I'm fairly certain that it is the exact same cage but with different holes for the hard drive. I will have to look into this.
