Slooooooooowwwww

Forum IndexMess Hall

Are these forums slow for anyone else? The pages take forever and a day to load. Heck, it took me almost 20 minutes to get to the page to type this. It keeps hanging on "Contacting ppcmla.dyndns.org" or "Contacting www.ppcmla.com". It worked fine before, and I have tried it on several computers, all with the same issue. It seems that clicking once on a link just makes it hang, and clicking twice will get you to a blank page where it will just sit and churn away for a few minutes until the page loads. What's up? Question Question
It's a little slow for me, although not as bad as you're finding it. It looks like there might be something wrong with it today as the menu bar at the top and the background don't seem to be loading for me.

Good to see ya here by the way Very Happy, what with the 68kmla still being offline Crying or Very sad

It sounds like I missed some code that calls the old domain still. I'll see if I can find that...

Peace,
Drew
sorry....double post.
Its still slow here. I even tried it at work and got nowhere. That was on a 5 Mbps cable connection.

I am already having withdrawl symptoms from having no 68kmla access. Shocked

Oh, and for some strange reason, I can't right click anywhere on the page. It sucks when I want to open a bunch of links in the background. Sad
Curious. The bit about the right click not working isn't this site. There's no code anywhere on the site that disables contextual menus.

Is that still a problem for you?

Peace,
Drew
Hmm, it appears that all the issues are gone now. Its speedy as heck, and I can right click again! Yea!

Thanks alk!!!! Very Happy
That was a quick reply! I'm glad it is working better for you now.

The problem was that the forum code that draws the menubar was trying to load a javascript file, some images, and the favicon from the old dyndns.org site. The dyndns.org site was offline, and the IP associated with the domain had changed (thanks to my dog - it's a long story).

Anyway, I grepped through the code and only found a few references (all in the same place) to the old site. I've updated them with the new site, and all seems to be well now.

What browser were you using? I'd like to test this out with that same setup...

Peace,
Drew
I mainly use the latest version of Camino, but I also tried Firefox 2, Internet Explorer 7, and Safari.
is it still slow for anybody else? im on w2k with firefox (yes i kno), but its also really slow with my pb 1400 with icab
The old server at ppcmla.dyndns.org:81 seems to be offline right now. I wonder if I'm still missing code somewhere that makes reference to that site...

Is it still slow for you?

It doesn't seem slow to me.

I've taken the old site offline again. A 9500 sucks down a lot of electricity, and it puts out a lot of heat, too. Actually, I think it was marginal on the cooling as I had it running on an overclocked G3/350 (clocked at 400 MHz). I had two KPs in the last couple days, and that's highly unusual, even for Mac OS X 10.2.8. Of course, I haven't got any temperature sensors on the thing, but 9500s aren't exactly known for their cooling...

Like I said above, I'm pretty certain I got all the references to the old site removed from the code here. If you find this site to still be slow, I would appreciate it if you would use this thread to say so.

Thanks!
Drew
You know, I just recently got an e-mail from some guy who was apparently part of the old PPCMLA, and didn't know that we had moved. He gave me a link to a thread in the old forums in his e-mail.

That's odd. The old forums are completely locked down. There are no new users and no new posts. I used the bulk email feature of the phpBB to send emails to all the users alerting them of the server move.

Can you tell me that person's username (via PM if you think it's appropriate) so I can follow up with him/her individually?

Thanks,
Drew
