Fastest 603e powerbook ever made. Given to me by a relative. It has a bad trackpad connection on the logic board that I was able to fix.
Specs:
240mhz 603e
40mb ram
2gb hard disk
OS 8.1
Going to hunt down my OS 8.6 disk and install this week, time permiting.
This is my 2nd 3400c, the other is a 200mhz model (using it now to write this, painfully slow using IE5). I love these little guys, they get lots of compilments when I lug one to the office from the old school mac users. _________________ ppc macs:

Eeek! IE5!
Download iCab and/or Classilla, immediately!
Heck, even Netscape 7 would be better than IE5...
(P.S. If you feel like parting with the slow one, I'd be happy to take it off your hands... )

Yeah, I know but it was the only thing I could find on the hard drive and just wanted to see if I could get online.
I've used iCab in the past but it's soooo buggy and slow.
I've never heard of Classilla, I'm assuming it's based on mozilla code. I'll give it a shot when I have the new 3400c up and running.
And sorry, I can't get rid of any of my precious 3400cs. Love these little guys! _________________ ppc macs:

Classilla should run well on that (after you up it to 8.6). Not that I'm biased or anything.

Looking forward to trying classilla tonight. I found my OS8.6 disk and I'll probably swap the other 3400c's memory (64mb module vs 32) to get that extra kick. _________________ ppc macs:

Tried classizilla, but I had to use my G3 233. Much better than iCab, at least with it's UI, but it has it's issues. Once I swap memory out of my 200mhz 3400, I'll try it on the 240. _________________ ppc macs:

Was it too slow on the 3400? Or too fat?

The 3400 only has 48mb ram and it wanted 64 minimum _________________ ppc macs:

Oh, yes. No, I don't support smaller than 64MB, it's just too problematic. You can use virtual memory, though -- if you use RAM Doubler or Apple VM and make an addressing space large enough, you can run it. In fact, my 1400 has 60MB of RAM "doubled" to 120MB, and I run Classilla on that for testing. Doing that as we speak for the imminent release of Classilla 9.1, in fact.

Makes perfect sense to me. I try not to do anything with vm with the older macs, just my own preference tho.
Here's a weird thing I noticed. The screws to pop the keyboard off on the bottom of the 200mhz are hex and the 240mhz are flat heads. Kind of odd, but whatever.
Time permitting (again) i'll swap the memory out this weekend. _________________ ppc macs:

I believe the originals are hex so it is possible that the 240mhz screws have been replaced at some point.
Did you swap the RAM and see if it made a difference?

I couldn't find my hex screw driver last weekend, so I'm borrow one from a friend. _________________ ppc macs:

Ok, finally swapped the memory. I'm typing this on the 240 with 80mb ram and Classilla 9.1.
Working OK, I'm having issues scrolling, it's pretty slow at times. But, all and all, the best browser I've ever used in classic os. _________________ ppc macs:

Scrolling does need work. There are a lot of hacks in there to get it to scroll right. Another thing to fix when I turn to layout again.
