Prices of G4 Xserves have gone way down on eBay, so I'm thinking of buying an Xserve and getting it hosted somewhere.

I'd like to offer free hosting for Mac-related websites. I used to offer a service called MacintoshDevelopers.net which gave away hosting to open source and freeware Mac developers. I would start that up again on the Xserve. I would also be open to hosting other Mac related sites such as news, forums, etc.

I think I can do some other neat stuff too like offer my own version of iDisks - which are nothing but AFP drives and I think OS X Server can do that easily. So I could offer maybe 50 MB free and you could connect from any Mac and load your word processing files or something.

that sounds like a good idea, now that the price of them has come down on ebay it would be affordable, and setting it up and maintaining it would be easy
