Upgrading a G3 AIO w/ Parts From B&W G3?

Forum IndexNewWorld Power Macs

I'd like to upgrade my G3 AIO with RAM from a G3 B&W and replace its 266 Mhz G3 w/ the 300 Mhz G3 from the B&W. Are these components compatible? Will I need to change the jumpers on the G3 AIO?
I'm not sure about the RAM, but if the CPUs have the same ZIF socket, then they should be compatible. Just set the lumpers on the AIO to whatever speed you want it to be, but try to have it right around 300MHz.

This page helped me immensely in figuring out what to change the jumper settings to in my Beige G3. I went for the stock PCI and system bus speeds to stay on the safe side, as well as the rated clock speed for my CPU. You do need to change the jumpers otherwise your new CPU will run at 266 MHz - you'll need to use a pin or similar to extract the metal bits from the jumper block in order to change them around

I usually use a needle for the little pins on thise jumper blocks. They're gonna be a pain no matter what you do...

you can use both ram and cpu for you beige. I´m running my beige at 87mhz bus without any problems. maybe you give it a try. It´s a noticable speed increase.
Yea the B&W ram will work 100% in a Beige G3, really they use the same standard but only the B&W G3 has a faster system bus (100mhz) and runs the memory at the same speed as the system bus.

you even have the same limit for the Beige G3 for the 256mb sticks of ram as the B&W G3/Yikes G4 system. if its the wrong type the system will either not work or the system will show only 128mb for that stick.

the 3 256mb sticks i bought for my Beige G3 AIO is for a B&W G3. i got them from DMS ( data memory systems) they are $22 a pop ($26 when i bought them).
