Comments/feedback welcome Smile
Regrettably, I found that although Møire appeared as it should in the Screen Saver portion of the System Preferences, the OS (both 10.3.x and 10.4.x) declined to open it. A pity, because I use only Møire 3 and 4 on monochrome and colour Macs from Classic (7.1.3) to 9600 (9.2.2), and I was looking forward not only to renewal of acquaintance with an old friend but also to a change from Cosmos.

That's very weird, what exactly happens when you try to open the screen saver (error messages, etc)? What are your system specs (exact system version, architecture, etc)? I've been able to run the screen saver without isue on Mac OS X Leopard, and Tiger both Intel and PPC here (panther untested) but obviously it has not been tested on every possible configuration that exists out there so problems likely do exist. Please work with me on this issue so that this bug can be squashed, thanks for the feedback! Smile
John, did you author (or have a part in authoring) Moire for OS X? Well done if you did!

Peace,
Drew

I used the links that I found at 68KMLA to download Møire_X, thinking at the same time that a day later might have been a more advised time to announce its release ...

Having no success with installation on either of two Indigo CRT iMacs (both 8532LL/A), but with differing processors:
Mar. 2002/G3/33.11/500MHz/1GB/10.4.11/SecUpd2008-002/128Pro2, and
Aug. 2001/G3/22.15/500MHz/768MB/10.3.9/SecUpd2007-008/128Pro2,

I removed Møire entirely from both. I shall repeat the exercise and let you know the results and messages displayed.

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, yeah I manage the Moire X project, I don't do the actual programming but I do oversee the contributors and make sure that the project seems to be going in the right direction. It has been quite a challenge to find a developer who not only knows Cocoa but still remembers and loves Moire and is willing to contribute to the project not for the money but for the love of the screensaver. Luckily after more then 3 years of searching I found Cathy Shive who has done what I feel is a outstanding job contributing to the Moire X project. Thanks to her dedication to the project, I feel that Moire finally has become a real reality for users of Mac OS X. Of course although the screen saver works in all mac conditions existing here, there likely still are bugs yet to be found and it is for that reason that I welcome all feedback so that the screen saver can be improved and bugs squashed. I've also decided to make Moire X opensource for a number of reasons: 1) So that the source code does not end up getting lost as is the case for the original Moire's source code 2) With the source code people can make their own versions of the Moire screen saver easily or implement its unique animation in other situations 3) It is my hope that eventually the source code will aid in the porting of Moire X over to other platforms such as Linux and Windows. Thanks for the feedback! Smile
Thank you for the warning about Panther. I downloaded and applied v4.0.1 binary, taking care all the way to dot all the tees and cross the eyes, and using a projection of the installation protocol onto the ceiling for reference (you're not obliged to believe that last).

First quibble. Please allow for the fact that there are still users with display sizes and geometries that cannot cope with tall windows/panes. Return works for acceptance rather than the OK button when that cannot be seen, but ... what else cannot be seen without changing screen resolution?

Second.
Hmm, what resolution are you using? You can see what the preferences are supposed to look like here: http://sourceforge.net/project/screenshots.php?group_id=151203 . I notice that you installed the screen saver in the main Screen Saver folder, that's fine that just means it'll be accessible to all users. The instructions are written assuming that the install is being done under a normal account and thus the user will be installing the screen saver for just themselves but either way works ...perhaps I should update the instructions to take into account both cases. I chose Moire over Møire because Moire is easier for people to type when searching for the screen saver Smile
Another piece of noo noos for your delight, and perhaps investigation, is that removal of Moire.saver from a Panther installation presented problems.

Moire continued to appear in the side-panel of Screen Saver even though it had been removed (command-backspace) from System/Library/Screen Savers to Trash. Not before invisible files had been invoked in Search did it show up in that Screen Savers folder, and was then able to be dragged to the Desktop, where it remained even after Secure Empty Trash had dealt with the copy already in Trash. Throughout this to-ing and fro-ing there had been no copy of Moire.saver, either visible or invisible, in ~/Library/Screen Savers.

Thanks for all the feedback and donation, greatly appreciated! Smile (more feedback of course, is always welcome)
