I use Tiger on my clamshell iBook, which is mostly fine but occasionally I have a print dialog or some other non-resizable window that's too big for the screen... usually the buttons I need are somewhere in the vicinity of the hinge
Is there any sneaky way to drag a window up beyond the menu bar?

I know that in X Windows based desktop environments like GNOME and KDE you can hold down the Alt key and click anywhere on the window to move it when this happens. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to do this with OS X windows (the exception being the Finder's navigational window view).

Nope. OS X will not let you drag a window 'above' the menu bar.

A universal solution to this kind of impasse would be of value. At a different level of OS sophistication, the inaccessibility of the OK button gave me much frustration when I was trying to configure an early Netscape version on an SE/30.

Yep. my "Officially supported" indigo clamshell has the same problem. I'm especially fond of the spotlight pref. pane.

Are the windows just plain too large to fit in the screen space? If not, you might trick it by changing resolutions. Sometimes the OS is smart enough to reposition windows that are off the display back into the display.
It sounds like in this case, however, that it may make sense to use Tab to access the desired buttons (see the Keyboard & Mouse prefs pane in the Keyboard Shortcuts tab).
Peace,
Drew

In many cases, Mac OS X itself creates windows too big for an 800x600 screen. This happens often in System Preferences. And on an original iBook (which is fully supported to Panther,) there is no video out of any kind, so you can't even hook up an external monitor to attempt to run at higher than 800x600.
