Clones
A notable (now that my interest has turned that way) omission from these forums is that of the short-lived Mac clones. I've just acquired a near-immaculate PowerTower Pro 225 shell, ie only the logic board in a case.

Some of the available info. about Power Computing's clones is contradictory (eg, first-slot DIMM construction) so, to aid my reconstruction plans, can anyone generalize about the interoperability of parts between PTP and Apple? 604e daughter cards? Third-party ZIF cards? Any important wrinkles to iron out?

Many thanks for your insights.

If I remember correctly, any Apple or 3rd party CPU card will run just fine in Power Computing boxes, though supposedly the same cannot be said in reverse. I think I heard once that PCC did some special magic with their daughtercards that makes them work incorrectly with other Macs.

That seems strange to me, though. A CPU daughtercard should work pretty much anywhere.

Peace,
Drew
Minor update: I've acquired an authentick PS for my PTPro 225 shell, so I can at least fire it up and check the logic board, given that I have RAM, HDDs and daughter cards enough. My source of the PS has a fund of other parts, which he has undertaken to mine for machine-specific treasures for me.

This PTPro was patently intended for serious business. The PSU makes provision for eight drives in addition to the logic board.
