I'm sorry. I didn't mean to give the impression that I wrote the article. To make sure there's no confusion, I'm not the author of the article. I just thought it would make an interesting discussion.

But given the paucity of posts, I guess others disagree.

We humans shall always stumble blindly into the fog, nowadays with even more insidious traps inside it, because we embrace technology before we look at its visage. My Doctrine of Unintended Consequences has been vindicated time and again by the outcomes of development, availability and widespread use of (exempli gratia) soluble morphine (heroin), DDT, mobile phones, the World-Wide Web, television as 'entertainment', electronic data capture, increasingly invasive medical procedures, etcetera ad nauseam.

Do not mistake that as bagging Science, but as a dislike of witless technological exploitation of scientific discoveries in advance of even cursory attempt to predict disadvantages, and thereby to ameliorate them. None can see the future clearly through the fog, and there will always be unpredictable outcomes despite the best guesses of the forward-looking prudent ones amongst us. But not even to canvass the possibilities is sheer bovine stupidity. If some outcome is possible, it will happen, whatever it is.
