Identifying DRAM

Forum IndexHelp Center

It is pretty common that people run accross a DRAM DIMM or SIMM that isn't labeled with an obvious capacity. In that case, to properly identify the size of the module, one must either install it in a compatible Mac or use magic to decode the numbers on the chips to figure out the overall capacity of the card.

Well, someone has figured out all the magic for you.

Check it out: http://www.chipmunk.nl/DRAM/ChipManufacturers.htm

I have yet to find a DRAM IC that I cannot identify this way...

Peace,
Drew

Happy though I am that the site exists, because it has many times been of great use to me, it has also been often a source of frustration, too. It seems not to have been updated in recent years, and there are many holes in its listings, especially of SIMMs.
