Linux on a Lombard

Forum IndexPowerPC *nix

I am looking at installing Linux on my Lombard powerbook, but I would like some advice. I downloaded the Ubuntu 6.10 ISO and burned a copy of the disc. I then tried to boot the disc, but it keeps crashing at the same point. It gives me an error message about having trouble with the PCI bus, then it gets to the boot screen with the Ubuntu logo and progress bar where it crashes after 10 seconds or so.

Is there something I am doing wrong, or is that version not compatible with the Lombard? The disc boots my B&W G3, though very slowly. Is there a better version or variety of linux I should try? Question
I can't speak to your particular issue (though I've seen similar things on my B&W and a beige G3), but I've had generally good luck with Mandrake/Mandriva Linux on my Pismo.

For what it's worth, Mandriva also has a fairly easy installation process. The installer is "famed" for it's intuitiveness.

I've heard that Yellow Dog Linux has very good Mac support.

I used to run Ubuntu (breezy) on my lombard. it should be (being newworld) able to run it natively. Just my 2ยข
I tried Fedora 11 with my Lombard 333mhz. It worked, but was extremely slow.

It had 512MB RAM and a 60GB hard disk.

Since MacOS X was faster I put that back on the system.
