Building a Cube: parts list?

Forum IndexNewWorld Power Macs

I'm thinking about building up a small system based on a Cube motherboard, and I was wondering if anyone can confirm the following parts list. I want to find out the minimum to get a bootable, networked machine. Assume all parts not listed can be substituted with common PC/Mac parts.

Logic board
CPU
DC-DC VRM power board
Ethernet board
AGP riser (*)
Power button
Reset switch
Power supply (**)

(*) If alignment isn't a problem, can I just stick an AGP card straight into the board? Can standard AGP risers be substituted? If I'm running headless, do I need this board at all?

(**) ATX mod possible?

I won't worry about the Airport adapter and antenna: if necessary I'll use a USB 802.11g adapter.
You won't get G speeds out of the USB 1.1 ports on a Cube. You'll max out at B speeds. The device will work, it just won't work as fast as it can.
I'm not certain that an ATX mod is exactly easy to do on that board. The power supply is a pretty custom design.

Your parts list looks correct to me, but I don't own a cube. What about the internal frame structure? I think that served to help dissipate some heat, but I could be wrong there.

Peace,
Drew

You can get a Cube for $100 plus shipping now. You'll spend way more than that building one. I saw 5 Cubes for $99.99 or $100.00 on ebay recently.
When this thread was started, Cubes were still relatively expensive.
