Its been awhile since I've bought any RAM for ...well for any Mac.

Is it safe to grab some 168-pin memory off ebay or is there a difference between Mac and PC?

I used to buy new from whoever was cheapest on ramseeker.com but I don't want to spend too much now. Though I can make myself feel better about the prices if I call up PC RAMBUS RAM. Smile

To add further detail to Bunsen's advice, you need also to distinguish between FPM and EDO. FPM has long been dearer per card, and is now virtually unavailable in any form but used. 8500 and 9500 need FPM, whereas the others in the 7300-9600 array can use either, but also profit from interleaving (identically paired, working downward in slot numbers from An/Bn to A0/B0).

Only the 4400 uses 3.3V (unbuffered EDO), which is keyed differently from the 5V used by other Macs. You cannot do yourself (and your Macs) a greater service than to get hold of Apple's Service Source manual Apple Memory Guide, January 2001, which covers from Plus to G4 DA, and also details laser printers, WGS Macs, and video cards. Your best hope of doing so is on CD from eBay, because Apple's legal hounds have hounded all US download sites out of existence, and I know of no certain European source.
