6500/275 SSW Question

Forum IndexPCI Power Macs & PowerBooks

Hey Everybody, at the high school we've got a 6500/275, it's not too bad, but I can't get SSW installed on it.

I am going to try to find my retail 8.0 cd, since I tried installing 8.0 with my iMac 233 disc, but it claims that the ssw isn't compatible, and I can no longer make the 6500 boot from a zip disc. (Is there a particular key combo for that?)

The machine will pretty much just be used for word processing and stuff. It's a nice config though, 6500/275 with 128mb of ram and a 6 gig hard disc. We've got an HP LaserJET 6ML to go with it, and we've got the driver disk for that too.

Thank you in advance if anybody knows anything. I'll be googling too.

I think the version of 8.0 that shipped with the original iMacs was specially customised for the iMac, which is probably why it doesn't work - 9.1 would seem the obvious choice for that Mac anyway if you have a copy you can use, it sounds like it's a nice specification. If the Zip is Scsi you could try holding Cmd+Option+Shift+Delete+Scsi ID number at startup. I also found something that said holding Option on startup will make "some Macs with Zip drives" boot from it.

But that iMac disc has successfully given life to my 840av, the LC475, an LC575, a 6500 I had before, and the 7300.

Weeird.

I know where to find a retail 8.0 CD, I will probably just put that on it.
