Airbus A380 to use Power PC technology!

Forum IndexMess Hall

Taken from an aviation industry newsletter:
Ha!

I knew there was a reason Airbus was kicking Boeing's rear end in the commercial airliner market...

It's gotta be the PowerPCs!

FWIW, I recently flew on an Airbus from Denver to Phoenix. It wasn't a 380 (that would be silly), but it did have that same style of inflight enterntainment system with LCD screens on the back of every seat. There was also an interesting airspeed and altitude indicator and map. When we approached Phoenix, the map zoomed in to different levels of detail showing where the aircraft was with respect to local terrain and roads. It was pretty neat.

Peace,
Drew

Yeah it isn't the same IFE. It my be similar, but A380 has got a totally new style of IFE, as far as how it actually functions. I'd go into more detail, but it'd probably bore most PPCmla'ers

Not me! I recently attended a conference of aerospace engineers where we discussed all sorts of stuff like this.

There were actually some Honeywell folks there talking about avionics systems on modern aircraft and how they are basically using off-the-shelf components that are 100% interchangeable and quickly swapable. PowerPCs came up a few times.

It was a great conference. I totally love that stuff...

Peace,
Drew
